Made from 100% Manx Loghtan wool. This Cuddly Baa is about 8 inches high (20 cms) and about 9 inches (23 cms) long. They are designed as collector items and are not suitable for children under 3 years of age. However a shorn variation (ie without the woolly coat) is available at a slightly lower price. These are believed to originated with the Vikings. The name Loaghtan is from the Manx words for mouse-brown, which describes its colour, and it is a native of the Isle of Man. The lambs are born almost black and the fleece colour tends to fade with age and exposure to the sun. The roots of the wool will remain the true mouse-brown colour. Their fleece is short and makes up into a very fine worsted fabric. Both ewes and rams may have 2, 4 or more horns. They are category 4 of the Rare Breed Survival Trust Watch list with less than 1500 pedigree ewes.
